Sports Massage is not just for athletes, the techniques used in Sports Massage are beneficial for everyone. This type of massage is a highly beneficial treatment if you’re suffering from a specific injury or niggle, whether that be from sitting at a computer all day giving you neck and shoulder pain or if have been training for a marathon and are experience overuse pain in your legs.
Scar tissue and fascial adhesions may be present in the body for many reasons besides from injury or surgery. Factors such as chronic pain, sedentary lifestyle, repetitive activities may lead to excessive fascial adhesions or scar tissue. This can interfere with function, cause pain and impact the quality of life.
Through assessment we will aim to find the cause of the issue and treat accordingly. Sports Massage combines soft tissue mobilisation, neuromuscular techniques and stretching. As a result, it can be one of the most effective massage techniques for releasing muscle tension and restoring balance to the musculoskeletal system.
Sports massage is often believed to be brutal, going with the ‘no pain, no gain’ mantra. However, this does not need to be the case. In fact, whilst you may feel discomfort during the massage, at no point do I want you to be in pain. This doesn’t mean you won’t receive an effective treatment; I’ll just ensure we work within your pain thresholds.

Cupping is an ancient therapy that was practiced by the Egyptians and Macedonians around 5,500 years ago. Cupping is an effective method of releasing toxin build up within body tissues and organs. The vacuum suction cups create a negative (de-compressive) pressure to lift, separate and stretch underlying soft tissues. This promotes oxygen and nutrient rich blood to flow to the treated area which can help reduce pain and improve tissue repair, mobility and movement whilst drawing impurities, dead tissues cells and toxins from the tissues to the surface promoting elimination. Many patients feel the ‘release’ benefits immediately during treatment.
Cupping can also provide a quick and less painful way of releasing neuromuscular trigger points. When used in combination with active movement, it helps to release adhesions and scar tissue.
Cupping can be provided as a therapeutic massage to balance your energy and relieve stress (in this case, fire cupping will be used), or it can be added to your sports massage for free within your treatment time.
Cupping can be used to treat a wide range of conditions, it is particularly effective for chronic back pain, swollen and painful joints, colds, headaches, arthritis, anxiety and depression and promote relaxation. The cups can also be placed on major acupressure points and could possibly be effective in treating digestive issues, skin issues and other common conditions treated with acupressure.

Hot Stone Massage utilises smooth basalt volcanic stones. Some stones will be placed on or under the body (not directly on the skin) to promote circulation and relaxation, whilst others will be used to massage the muscles. Hot stones help ease muscle tension, promote endorphin release, dilate blood capillaries and boosts the flow of nutrient rich blood to tight muscles, ligaments and fascia, encouraging deep relaxation and rejuvenation. They say that one massage stroke with a hot stone is equivalent to 10 strokes by hand.
Hot stones massage can be provided as a whole-body therapeutic massage or can be added to your Sports Massage. Combining hot stones with your Sports Massage, enhances your treatment as the increased heat will help to release tension, making the muscles more malleable. This also allows us to work deeper into the muscle with reduced pain. It will also help with the recovery of the muscle as your increased circulation will bring oxygen and nutrient rich blood to the muscles for repair.

Instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilisation (IASTM) assists with your soft tissue therapy treatment for musculoskeletal immobility and pain. It uses specialised tools to provide compressive strokes to manipulate the skin, myofascial tissue, muscles, and tendons. IASTM addresses soft tissue restriction, initiates healing mechanisms and stimulates mechanical receptors which create favourable changes in movement and pain. The instruments I use are RockBlades® which engage the myofascial tissue by creating tension and shear – creating both a mechanical and neurological effect to the system.
It can effectively treat upper pathologies such as carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, golfers elbow, trigger thumb, plantar fasciitis, patellar tendinitis, rotator cuff tendinitis, adhesive capsulitis post-surgical and traumatic scars, muscle strain, back pain, trigger points, iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS) and myofascial pain, restrictions and many such disorders.
